Taiwan generates 590,000 tons of food waste annually, which, if stacked in food waste bins, would reach the height of approximately 13,500 Taipei 101 buildings. For the next generation, raising awareness regarding sustainable food resources has become urgent.​​​​​​​
根據環保署,台灣每年廚餘量59萬公噸,若用廚餘桶堆疊起來約為1萬3500座臺北101的高度。
為下一代,永續飲食資源的意識養成教育已迫在眉梢。

The insect in this device is called the black soldier fly, the larvae of the black soldier flies are considered as decomposers, they break down organic matter and return nutrients back to the soil. Black soldier fly cultivation has been used for a source of high quality protein for other animals, even human, by recycling agricultural waste products and household food scraps.

也就是說廚餘可以被轉化成昆蟲蛋白,轉化再利用

黑水虻是一種能日夜進食處理廚餘、同時轉化廚餘養分為蛋白質的腐食性昆蟲,我們因此決定設計與優化與其相關養殖裝置。它有以下特點:
1. 發育歷期長但體型成快,吸收轉化率高和營養價值
2. 優質高蛋白可替代其他價動物飼料且格便宜
3. 黑水虻可選擇食物種類廣泛 (包含廚餘 ),飼養容易
4. 生物自體抗肽及高營養,用於飼效果極佳

The Ento.edu design is an innovation for raising the insect - Black solider flies- to teach people the life cycle of such saprophytic bugs, in order to fit academic institutions such as junior high schools and elementary schools about environment sustainability around organic waste topics. 

為了永續環境,讓昆蟲們替你解決處理剩食的煩惱,並轉化成有機肥料以及蟲體高蛋白;結合校園,推廣學齡青少年的環保意識,讓綠色意識從小就紮根。
Ento.edu 黑水虻教育養殖裝置,整合了地表最強清道夫——黑水虻的所有生長流程於一體,垂直設置優化了蟲體成長以及學童的觀察操作。

The issue of incomplete food waste processing in Taiwan is severe, and the rise of black soldier fly farming presents a promising solution. Unfortunately, the relevant regulations for black soldier fly farming remain unclear, often leading to fragmented technology that hinders the development of organic waste management. We hope to start by fostering awareness from a young age so that our generation begins to understand:
台灣廚餘處理不完全問題嚴重,黑水虻養殖的興起是解決此問題的曙光。如今可惜黑水虻養殖的相關規定不明確,往往造成技術分散不利於有機廢棄物處理的建設。我們希望以「從小扎根」做起,讓我們這一代開始知道:

Rearranging Components
裝置空間概念​​​​​​​
Ento.edu, the Black Soldier Fly Rearing Unit integrates the entire black soldier fly breeding process into one system. 
It is vertically designed to optimize larvae growth and facilitate students' observation and operation. We place the most time-consuming growth stage—the larval stage, which lasts about two weeks—at the top level to streamline the process of feeding food waste. The other growth stages, which require less manual labor, such as pre-pupation, pupation, and reproduction, are integrated into the lower levels.

Ento.edu黑水虻教育養殖裝置,整合黑水虻飼養流程於一體,垂直設置優化蟲體成長以及學童的觀察操作;我們把最費時的生長階段(約2周),也就是幼蟲期,放在最上層以優化餵食廚餘等地操作,其餘生長階段,不需要耗費太多人力的過程,如:預蛹、羽化和繁殖等等,則整合在下層。

Green awareness should start with education, promoting local "sustainable agriculture" from the elementary level. By integrating the competence-based approach of the new Taiwan National 108 Curriculum Guidelines, students and parents can learn about black soldier flies and understand Taiwan’s food waste crisis. Using black soldier flies to address Taiwan's food waste issue effectively transforms it into commercially valuable animal feed, not only reducing the burden on composting land and incinerators but also indirectly boosting Taiwan’s agricultural development.
綠色意識應從教育做起,促進本土「永續農業」從校園著手,結合108新課綱素養導向,藉由讓學童及家長認識黑水虻,瞭解到台灣廚餘危機。透過黑水虻解決台灣廚餘廢棄物,有效轉化為有商業價值的動物飼料,不僅改善廚餘堆肥土地、焚化爐負擔的問題,也間接促進台灣農業發展。


Having been naturally separated from the food waste through the pre-pupation pathway, the larvae in this drawer are ready for other valuable uses, such as feeding chickens.
這個抽屜裡的蟲體,因為經過預蛹道的自然篩選已經與廚餘分離,可以拿去做其他有價值的處理,如:餵食雞隻。
